I’m here on a website I started during my time in college. It was used for my web design course, but I thought I should hold on to it anyways. I’ve carried on to it for about 5 years and haven’t used it so I thought I would just use it as a blog space. I’d like this to be a place where I can speak my mind and find thinkers akin to my own interests. I never thought I’d actually try blogging, but you can consider this my first real post.

As you can tell, from the name of the website, my name is Luis E. Yera. The E is for “Enrique” and i’m an artist by nature. I actually left the true first post alive because I thought it was actually still valid. Melinda Beck, though i’ve never met her, sounds like a really cool person to know. My assignment was to find an artist and make a single page website to blog about how I feel about that artist’s work. I happened to come across Melinda Beck and thought “Wow I didn’t know she contributing to producing some of the cartoons I grew up on. This is amazing!”

I hope you all enjoy that article and check out her portfolio. It’s really nice work.

I’m not just an artist though. I’m a multifaceted being carrying a myriad of valuable experience to share with the world—just like you. I’m now about 1/3 of a century years old if you do the math. My life, so far, has been pleasantly dynamic which forced me to adapt to a wide variety of skills. I’ve dabbled with many things, but I have become exceptionally adept with branding businesses, programming with several computer languages, and communications. If you’re wondering what “communications” means, i’m talking about methods such as selling/sales, psychology, marketing, visual communication, tone, cadence, posturing, etc. This is the care of my professional life. Some of these things I needed to learn for my graphic design college degree. I recognized they were also important for me to know if I ever planned to offer and freelance graphic design services. Another important thing that I needed to know was business operations and systems, but I learned nothing about that in college. Maybe a tiny bit, like business emails and creating invoices, but nothing really close to what you’d be taught going for an MBA.

To supplement my knowledge of my core skills I’ve spent countless hours reading books and blogs; and watching YouTube videos. I’ve read some books about how business operates, how to manage businesses, how to manage time, how to manage money, how to secure business funding, how to run my own agency… the list goes on and on. The point is that I have a wealth of knowledge to share. In fact it’s my duty, I feel, to share my knowledge with the world. Especially when it delivers a positive impact.

Aside from learning all those business books, I’ve also read many books related to graphic design and computer programming. I am 100% officially certified in more than 10 computer languages. I have been learning and using all sorts of computer languages just as long as i’ve been studying graphic design. I started in college out of the necessity to learn HTML, CSS, and about 10 lines of Javascript code.

I’m a puzzle freak and the javascript was really pissing me off because I couldn’t understand it. I just NEEDED to know what the hell the instructor told me to write. I spent about 3-5 years REALLY digging in to JavaScript to the point where I was playing around with objects and XMLHTTP Requests. in other words, I was pretty decent with it, but I’ve never held a professional position using JavaScript on projects daily. I would love to do that, but i’ve never had any applications accepted when I tried applying for those roles. I tried for many years to be a front end developer with no success; just gave up. I have been accepted into a couple back-end positions though. Maybe i’ll write about that in the future and link you guys to it here.

I just wanted to pop out and let you all know i’m here, i’m alive, i’m real, and I’m ready to share the knowledge i’ve gained along my life’s journey. Thanks for your time today, and I hope you enjoy my content, whoever you are out there.
